Behind the Black Stain
Intro
Al momento de su muerte, José Eustasio Rivera estaba escribiendo la que iba a ser su segunda novela, en la que planeaba retratar los abusos de la entonces naciente industria petrolera en Colombia, como lo había hecho con la industria del caucho en La Vorágine. La iba a titular La Mancha Negra.
At the time of his death, José Eustasio Rivera was writing what was going to be his second novel, in which he planned to portray the abuses of the then emerging oil industry in Colombia, as he had done with the rubber industry in The Vortex. He was going to title it: The Black Stain.
En la obra: Detrás de La Mancha Negra, hemos identificado cinco ejes temáticos, que relacionan la vida, obra y muerte de José Eustasio Rivera con el desarrollo de dos siglos de vida republicana en Latinoamérica.
Estos son:
(1) Movimientos sociales en Colombia
(2) Panamericanismo e influencia de los EEUU
(3) Sectarismo político en Colombia
(4) Esclavitud y Derechos Humanos
In the work: Behind The Black Stain, we have identified five thematic connections, which relate the life, work and death of José Eustasio Rivera, with the development of two centuries of republican history in Latin America.
These are:
(1) Social movements in Colombia
(2) Panamericanism and influence of the USA
(3) Political sectarianism in Colombia
(5) Exploitation of the jungle

Nota: cada línea representa uno de los temas estudiados en las primeras 5 sesiones. En la sexta sesión se estudia el legado de La Vorágine partiendo de la premisa de George Orwell: ‘todo arte es propaganda’ (el análisis incluye la evolución de los temas estudiados hasta el primer cuarto del Siglo XXI).
Note: each line represents one of the subjects studied in the first 5 sessions. The sixth one studies the legacy of The Vortex, from the perspective of George Orwell’s statement: ‘all art is propaganda’. It also analyses the evolution of the subjects studied, until the first quarter of the 21st century.

El programa educativo y la obra de ficción presentadas bajo el título: Detrás de La Mancha Negra, han sido desarrolladas en paralelo con el ejercicio documental Fiebres de Oro en Blanco & Negro sobre la vida, obra y muerte de José Eustasio Rivera.
The educational program and work of fiction presented under the title: Behind the Black Stain, have been developed in parallel with the exercise in documentary: Gold Fevers in Black & White, about the life, work and death of José Eustasio Rivera.
